The Codfather wins again for Northern State - January 25th 2003
The Codfather (3yo Gelding by Northern State x Virtual Reality) had a very good win today at Riccarton in MCDUFFS WORLD OF GOLF MIDDLE PARK PLATE 2&3YO 1000m, coming strongly down the outside of the straight from a wide draw to win by 2 3/4 lengths. Northern State currently stands at Huntsbury Stud in Amberly and is a full brother to USA sire Storm Bird, with The Codfather being his only New Zealand runner.

Flying Pegasus also had two race starters today. Salus (Flying Pegasus x Schwepps Addition) made an excellent run at Riccarton in Race 1 10% EXTRA ON WIN BETS PROMOTION Intermediate 1400m. After becoming caught on the rail into the straight, she was moved out wide behind the front runners to quickly close in for second place by only half a head to the winner.

Pinstripe started in his toughest test to date, the Holden Thorndon Mile Double OPN HCP no allowance 1600m Group One event at Ellerslie, and, although unplaced after becoming trapped on the rail, was placed midfield only 3.5 lengths from the winner Zvezda - a good result up against a field of more experienced and group performed horses.

Of interest, second place in another Group One event held today at Ellerslie, Wellington, the ING NZ LTD TELEGRAPH HANDICAP TREBLE OPN HCP no allowance 1200, went to Egyptian Raine, who is by Desert Sun out of Egyptian Queen - this dam being a full sister to Karioi Princess who is the second dam of Pinstripe (Flying Pegasus x Silk Pyjamas).
